2011 Season - Week 20
BUMSBowl XVII
Championship Upsets. After picking their teams last week Craig (#2 seed) and Mark (#8) had 5 of the same players on their teams, so as Craig supplied his team first he got to change one player before Mark had to change his two. Sadly for Craig he cut Vernon Davis (who went on to score 2 TDs) and replaced him with Ted Ginn, who was made inactive an hour before kick-off with a knee injury. That cost Craig dear as his most successful season (Premiership runner-up and first ever Championship Game) came to an end with him losing 20-23. In the other game (3 seed) Johnnie’s attempt at a three-peat came up short as none of his outfield players (Rice, Gore, Cruz and Gronkowski) scored. So after two years of domination with the double, double his season ended with a 14-26 loss. So let battle commence as the Underachieving Bastards take on the Westmorland Wolverines in two weeks time. Daz (the #4 seed) is seeking a record fourth BUMSBowl victory to go with the Conference title he won earlier in the month. Mark won the BUMSBowl back in 1998. Prices will be out in next weeks newsletter and you’ll need to get your teams in by 6pm Saturday February 4th. It will be first come first served but wait for the prices fellas.
BUMS on ProBowl and Superbowl Seats
The ProBowl is played this Sunday (a week before the Superbowl) and we will be meeting at Johnnies on Monday from 6:30pm to see it. Let him know if you are going as he may be cooking the world famous Bowden Burgers. Last weekend a tale of two kicks decided the fate of the Championship Games, Billy Cundiff missed a 32 yard field goal wide right which would have put Baltimore into overtime, while Lawrence Tynes made a 31 yard field goal in overtime to knock San Francisco out. So it’s a repeat of Superbowl XLII in 2007 when the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 17-14. They met far more recently than that, back in week 9 this season where the Giants also beat the Patriots (24-20). Superbowl XLVI is on Sunday February 5th on the BBC with kick-off around 11.20pm & Cheryl will be cooking a USA feast, for 10:30pm so let us know if you can make it. It will possibly be an unbiased meal of Boston Baked Beans (New England) followed by New York (Giant) Cheesecake. So who ya got? We’ll be playing all the usual games, more information on them next week.
BUMS back 2 Bodeans Barbecue Bash
To end the season I propose we have a BUMS evening at Tower Hill Bodeans, on either Thursday 16th, 23rd or Wednesday 29th February. Plenty of time to get it in the diary, please let me know which dates suit and which don’t if you wish to come and we’ll go with the majority. Anyone who wants to go let me know your can and can’t do days by Superbowl Night.
